Noninvasive Cardiology focuses on diagnosing and managing heart conditions without surgical or interventional cardiology procedures. Noninvasive methods are used to diagnose heart conditions, guide treatment, and monitor progress over time.
Heart Rhythm Monitoring
Heart Rhythm Monitoring is essential to the diagnosis and management of a variety of heart conditions. As part of your initial diagnosis, you will be given an Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG), a test that records your heart’s electrical activity over a few seconds or minutes to detect irregular or abnormal heart rhythms.
Then, depending on your needs, one of the below forms of monitoring may be prescribed:
- Holter Monitor, a portable device that records your heart rhythm over time.
- Event Monitor, worn for a longer period, sometimes as long as 30 days — you activate the monitor when you experience symptoms.
- Implantable Loop Recorder, a tiny device that is implanted under the skin of your chest where it continuously records your heart rhythm.
- Mobile ECG device, small, portable devices, some of which can sync with smart phones that record ECGs.

Exercise Stress Testing
Stress Echo Cardiogram
Stress Echo Cardiogram (Stress Echo) combines a stress test with an electrocardiogram to assess how well your heart functions under physical stress. First, you are given a baseline ECG. Then, stress is induced by having you walk on a treadmill or ride an exercise bike, or through medication that simulates the effects of exercise. After your heart reaches a target stress level, another echocardiogram is performed. This test helps us determine how well your heart pumps blood and whether some parts of your heart are not receiving enough blood during stress, an indicator of coronary artery disease.
Transesophageal Echocardiogram
Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE) is a type of echocardiogram used to evaluate conditions that are hard to assess through a conventional echo. Whereas a regular echocardiogram is performed through the chest wall, this test uses an ultrasound probe inserted through your mouth and threaded down your esophagus. You can expect to be given a sedative before this test and your throat may be coated with a local anesthetic. Once in place, the probe uses sound waves to create detailed images of your heart.
Radionuclide Stress Testing
Radionuclide Stress Testing, also known as a nuclear stress test, is a diagnostic procedure used to evaluate how well your heart functions under physical stress. The test combines imaging technology with the use of a small amount of radioactive material to detect abnormalities and/or reduced blood flow to the heart.
